Carrascal, Esmeralda García
After working alongside some of Spain's top organic winemakers, Esmeralda García decided that it was time to head home and start her own venture. Cultivating with only one variety Verdejo, she manages just under 5ha of land in her home town of Santyuste de San Juan Bautista. The dry climate and sandy soil here is well suited to her organic practices with no pesticides or herbicides being used. Esmeralda also lets the grapes speak for themselves with no chemical additives added in vinification.
The Labels represent the diversity of the soils found on her 4 different plots and each wine has a distinct individuality. Carrascal is the hottest vineyard area on her land where the vines are up to 230years old.
Producer Esmeralda García
Viticulture & Winemaking Organic viticulture. Grapes are hand harvested and go through a brief skin contact, followed by direct press, and six month ageing in amphora. The wine is then finished unfined and unfiltered.
Region Rueda, Spain
Tasting Notes Touch of savoury, fragrant notes mixed with dried fruits, herbs and a lasting minerality. More concentrated than Santyuste.
