Jalka, Mas Lou
Olivier and Adèle set out on their own in Faugères after years of working the vines. As well as Coume del Mas and Mas Cristine, they have worked harvests in Spain, Chile, and Bordeaux before starting Mas Lou in 2014. Olivier’s first love is the vines, and would far prefer to be among them than the winery.
Their 8ha sits between 200 and 400m above sea level, giving a cooling freshness to the wines that others in the region struggle to achieve. The quantities are tiny, and the French wine press has started to take notice of just how delicious the wines are.
Jalka is made from ancient Cinsault vines that add depth and richness to the final wine.
Producer: Mas Lou
Viticulture & Winemaking Organic viticulture. Grapes are hand-harvested, and fermented in stainless steel vats through indigenous yeasts. The wine is then finished with little intervention and low S02.
Region Languedoc , France
Tasting Notes Aromas of white pepper, red berries and liquorice. The red fruits are complimented by a undertone of minerality and lasting finesse.
