Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spätlese Trocken, Koehler-Ruprecht
Koehler-Ruprecht started to produce dry Rieslings back when they weren't on the trendy radar. Since 2011 the winery has been managed by Dominik Sona with the help of cellar master Franziska Schmitt. Kown for their three site - the rugged 750-yr-old Steinacker, the more pristine and limestone 120-year-old Annaberg, and the legendary 200+year-old Saumagen.
The estate is known for its rich Rieslings that are bought to life through hard work and old school winemaking. Featuring both the pradikät and the trocken designation on each wine, that the VDP no longer allows and was one of the reasons for leaving consortium.
Viticulture & Winemaking Sustainable. Grapes are hand harvested and use Indigenous yeasts to ferment in large oak casks. The wine is aged in old oak barrels and finished with little intervention.
Region Pfalz, Germany
Tasting Notes From the Limestone rich prime site of Saumagen, is where Koehler-Ruprecht harvests his grapes for his top wines. The Spätlese Trocken is known as the elegant one. Showcasing intense aromas of baked apple and grapefruit its rich texture fills the palate with balanced acidity.
