Rouge, Max Sein
Based in Dertingen, Franconia, winemaking has been an integral part of Max’s life, with his grandfather and father both involved in it for many years. To further his understanding and philosophy, Max worked with different winemakers in Austria, Germany, New Zealand, with the likes of Judith Beck, Gut Oggau amongst others. These experiences led Max to reflect on the farming practices he wanted to follow and the wines he wanted to produce. Max Sein Wein was born.
Working on 3.5 ha all organically farmed including some 60-year-old vines, with soils rich in 95% limestone and 5% of red sandstone. Silvaner, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau and in reds he works with majority of Meunier and some Pinot Noir.
The wines are hauntingly riveting. There is tension, precision, and as they open up, expansiveness and vibrancy take over. His reds show the great potential of the Meunier variety and the wines it can produce when under the right hands and someone who understands how to work with this grape.
