Tinto, Bodegas Artuke
Named after Arturo and Kike de Miguel, Bodega Artuke is situated in Banos de Ebro in Rioja Alavesa. They are part of a unique movement in the region and also involved with the "Futoro Vinador" association in Spain. Shunning the traditional Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva classifications which are based around wine maturation. In favour of labels that show regional and village labels instead.
The brothers call themselves farmers. They tend to the families 32 plots through biodynamic/organic methods and they love to recover old estates to bring them back to life. Tinto is a wild wine and not what you call a classic Rioja since it only sees 6months of age in concrete and zero oak influence.
Producer Bodegas Artuke
Viticulture & Winemaking Organic viticulture. Grapes are hand harvested and go through a semi-carbonic maceration with spontaneous fermentation that then spends just six months in concrete. Finished off with little intervention.
Grapes Tempranillo, Macabeo, Viura
Region Rioja, Spain
Tasting Notes A slight curveball here, by the way of absolutely zero oak influence. The palate is fresh and full-on fruity due to the whole clusters used in fermentation.
